U10 Travel Rec/U11-U14 COMP Program SOCCER FAQ'S
 
What is the difference between U10 Travel Rec and Comp?
The U10 Travel Rec program involves players at the U9 and U10 level and stresses development. Players in this age group will practice two days per week.  They will participate in games on Saturdays and/or Sundays. 
 
The Comp program is a competitive travel program for U11 –U14.  Players in this group will have two practices a week and one to two games a weekend.  If you play Multiple Sports, we recommend you sign up for Travel Travel Rec only as Travel Comp requires 100% Commitment at ALL Practices and Games

How long and how many times a week are practices?
The coach along with the Coaching Director determines the number of practices, length, starting time and location; usually 1 to 2 hours, twice a week.

Is my child expected to attend all practices every week?
Players are expected to attend ALL practices and to notify the coach, prior to practice, if they cannot attend.  The travel program requires a commitment by both the players and parents.

Will my child play in every game?
U10 Travel players must play in at least 50% of each game. Competitive players' field time is at the discretion of the coach and playing time is NOT guaranteed

How far do you travel to a game?
Generally less than 45 minutes. Excluding tournaments and State Cup play, teams generally travel in the area between Shelton, Southington, and Clinton.

Do you travel every weekend?
No. You generally travel 4-5 games a season. Every schedule includes home games. Home games are played at various fields in Hamden.

When are games played?
Games are normally scheduled on Saturdays and/or Sundays only however weekday games can be scheduled.

When and where are the tournaments?
Tournaments are normally held on the weekends during the fall and spring seasons. Participation in these tournaments is up to the coach, players and parents.

How many games are in a tournament?
Usually there are a minimum of 3 games and a maximum of 6. It varies by tournament.

Is my child expected to be at every game?
Players are expected to attend ALL games.

How many children will be rostered on the team?
Generally 8 v. 8 teams (U10-U12) will have 13-15 players and 11 v. 11 teams (U13 and above) will have 16-20 players. 

What are the costs of the uniform and who pays for them?
Unless otherwise noted the cost of 1 Hamden uniform, 1 pair of shorts and 1 pair of socks is included in the program cost.

Can my child play another sport/activity while being on the Travel soccer team?
Yes, as long as they can attend all practices and games. Hamden Soccer Association encourages multiple activities however our comp programs require a commitment to attend all practices/games therefore it is recommended to sign up for Travel Rec if you play in multiple sports.
